How To Do A Pomodoro

Pomodoro’s have been a game changer to my productivity, so I’m going to show you how to do them.

  1. Set a timer for 25 minutes.
  2. For this 25 minutes, you have to work on ONE TASK with the focus of a laser beam.
  3. That’s it. You did a pomodoro!

When I say laser-like focus, I mean it.

If you get a text message, ignore it.

Facebook message, ignore it.

Email, ignore it.

Think of something else important to do? Ignore it.

Fire alarm? Okay, go outside.

You get the point.

It’s important to work on something that is a a focused task, nothing broad.

GOOD: "Write Homepage Copy" is a focused task.
BAD: "Build a website" is a broad task.

GOOD: "Create Flowchart of Marketing Strategy" is more focused
BAD: "Work on marketing" is too broad.

GOOD: "Create list of influencers to reach out to" is focused.
BAD: "Grow business" is broad.

Your bigger goal will always be a combination of smaller tasks.

For example, "Build New Landing Page" is made up of several smaller tasks, including:

  1. Research & download free landing page themes
  2. Write landing page copy
  3. Create email list & form
  4. Build landing page with new copy & email form code

It’s like cooking.

Think of your main task as your finished meal, but the individual tasks are the steps of the recipe that you must outline.

Breaking down your day’s tasks like this and knocking out each part in a focused pomodoro session will get things done much faster than you normally do.

If you find yourself working on a pomodoro task but you end up doing a bunch of different things during it, you may be better off breaking those off into smaller tasks.

How to do it:

  1. Break down your tasks.
  2. Write them all down with check boxes.
  3. Do pomodoro work sessions and only work on one task at a time for the session. – MOST IMPORTANT PART
  4. Check off the boxes as you complete the tasks.
