A productivity coach might be just what you need if you’ve been struggling with goal setting, time management, or simply getting things done.

Many entrepreneurs struggle with the fact that they know what needs to get done, but when it comes time to do the work, they run into a brick wall, Or can’t figure out how to get started in the first place.  Perhaps you find yourself working harder and longer than the other people around you, without making real progress towards achieving the success you desire.

It feels impossibly frustrating when you’re up against something that you know should an easy task, but it somehow looks like a mountain and feels impossible to get done. In reality, things look more difficult than they actually end up, once we start working on them in the right way.

This is where a productivity coach can help.

Who is productivity coaching for?

Productivity coaching is most appropriate for business owners and entrepreneurs who feel like they could use extra support towards achieving their goals. You should work with your coach to determine what the best route is for you. You might need to find a system or strategy that fits you better, or perhaps you need help sticking to one that already fits you.

Whatever the route you take, it’s important to use productivity strategies with your coach that are suitable for how you think and work, as opposed to template-based methods that don’t fit your unique needs.

Unlike a life coach, productivity coaches are focused more specifically on things like goal setting and time management skills and are typically hired by business owners & entrepreneurs. It’s very similar to a time management coach, however, productivity experts will usually look at more areas of your life aside from how you specifically spend your time. No amount of time micromanagement can outperform a distracted mind.

Do I need a productivity coach?

This is a tough question to answer since it comes down to your resources and the place that you’re at in regard to achieving peak productivity. If you haven’t worked on it on your own yet then I recommend that you start out with some self-study with my free resources.

Learn from the various tools and techniques that I’ve already taught for free online before getting one-on-one help. You want to be sure that you have a solid foundation of principles to build upon – and it can be expensive to start from scratch with coaching.

On the other hand, if money is less of an issue and you’re in need of more time instead, then getting an accelerated start to become more productive can make sense, and be a better use of your time and resources – and it should pay for itself as you move towards your goals more quickly.

What should you expect when working with a productivity coach?

You shouldn’t expect overnight results, but after all, that’s what this is all about. You already know that things don’t happen instantly, and it takes time and determination to achieve your goals.

That means that your productivity coach should be flexible to your unique needs and work with you to help you figure out a way to get them done.

There are a plethora of tools and techniques available in order to make you more productive, however, these inflexible systems often don’t fit everyone’s personal needs. Instead, you should work with your productivity expert in order to figure out the areas that you need help in an order to find the best solutions for them.

You should also be wary of any very rigid programs or regiments that may sound compelling or convince you that’s what you need. While these programs can work in the short-term and give you a temporary boost of productivity due to their bootcamp-like structure, these are not sustainable and can leave you stuck in the same place months down the road – with some additional frustration of the failure from trying to ‘force it’ with willpower.

If willpower alone were enough to get everything done, then there would be no need for any techniques,  time management systems,  goal setting,  analysis,  or any of that. Instead, we would be able to just put our head down, and through sheer will power of wanting to get that thing done, it would get done.

Most people have an idea of where they want to go,  and often go through periods of motivation. When the motivation is high, it’s easy to get a lot of work done. The crucial missing part is accountability. And that’s where productivity coaching comes into play.
